David Doctor   David Doctor - Moderator
President & CEO, E4 Carolinas
David is an award-winning business builder and leader. In 1980 he became Director of Strategy for an interstate natural gas pipeline. Subsequently, David co-founded or led seven companies, most of which were energy companies. He grew EnTrade Corporation, a natural gas marketing and trading company, to more than $1 billion in annual sales over eight years and Genscape, Inc, an energy information company, from R&D to international, cash-positive operation in 30 months. He raised more than $100 million in capital for these companies and managed the subsequent sale of three other companies. David was named an Inc. Magazine/Ernst & Young regional Entrepreneur of the Year award winner for EnTrade Corporation and Genscape, Inc. David is also an award-winning academic innovator and organizer. While a fulltime CEO of early stage businesses, he also served from 1997 through 2005 as the University of Louisville's College of Business Bank One Entrepreneur in Residence. In 1998 he was named the College's Graduate Educator of the Year. In 2012 David joined Duke University's Energy Initiative where he effectively served as its chief operating officer while collaborating in building the Initiative. David joined E4 Carolinas in September 2014 and serves as its President and CEO. E4 Carolinas is a trade association for 140+ Carolina energy companies which collaboratively promotes energy workforce development, economic development, federal and state policy, and innovation and capital attraction.   

Roman Arutyunov   Roman Arutyunov
Co-Founder and Vice President of Products, Xage Security
As a Xage Security co-founder and Vice President of Products, Roman manages Xage's grid-edge security products and their performance. Prior to Xage, Roman held Vice President of Product and Engineering roles at ABB, Tropos Networks, and Mimosa Networks solving networking, security, and data analytics challenges for industrial and commercial enterprises enabling millions of IoT devices in production today. Earlier in his career, Roman developed the first generation of Content Distribution Networks (CDN) and secure proxy servers at Blue Coat Systems (Symantec). Roman holds a Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics with an emphasis in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Columbia University.  

Mike Carlson   Mike Carlson
President, Smart Grid North America, Siemens
As President, Smart Grid, North America for Siemens, Mike has more than 25 years of global executive management executive experience with expertise in the areas of finance, technology and operations management across industries. He also serves as CEO of eMeter, A Siemens Business. Mike's started in finance and systems and has dedicated his 15+ years in the utility industry to harnessing technology to achieve value through business transformation and grid modernization. As the former CIO of Xcel Energy, Mike was a key player in designing and implementing the utility's business transformation and smart grid strategy. In his current role at Siemens Mike is responsible for driving the business strategy and execution for the Smart Grid North America business and global software development.

Sal DellaVilla   Sal DellaVilla
Founder, Chairman & CEO, Strategic Power Systems
DellaVilla is the founder, Chairman, & CEO of Strategic Power Systems. With over thirty-eight years of experience in the reliability engineering and information technology disciplines. He has led SPS in establishing the Operational Reliability Analysis Program (ORAP®) as the single largest global plant database in the energy industry. Prior to founding SPS in 1987 he held various positions in General Electric's turbine business operation, with a focus on "design for reliability" processes. He completed his undergraduate work at Siena College and his graduate work at Union College, focusing on mathematics, statistics, operations research and industrial administration and management. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a past Chairman of the Electric Power committee, and a past Chairman of the ASME Standards Committee on reliability. He is a member of the American Society for Quality Control, and an ASQ certified reliability engineer. He has served as a member of the World Energy Council's working group on reliability and is currently on the Advisory Board of the Electric Power Conference and a current member of the Gas Turbine Association (GTA).

Brandon Durham   Brandon Durham
Vice President of Performance Engineering, Carolina Solar Services
With over 6 years' experience in Utility Photovoltaics, Brandon is responsible for ensuring all PV plants areoperating at peak performance. This charge includes Active Monitoring, Performance Testing, Under-performance Evaluations, Plant Optimization, Technical Support, and Asset Management. Prior to joining theCSS team, Brandon developed and led Strata Solar's Operations and Performance Engineering teams. Overhis career, he has been responsible for over 1.3 GW of Utility Solar across the nation. Brandon graduated fromNorth Carolina State University and has holds a NABCEP certification.   

Tim Fratta   Tim Fratta
CEO, Carolina Solar Services
Recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of Carolina Solar Services, Tim has extensive executive leadership experience in the renewable energy sector with international and domestic expertise in solar and wind asset management, O&M, and P&L management.  Tim has lived and working in 4 countries and is skilled at bridging cultural gaps in corporations. He holds citizenship in Canada, Italy, and the U.S. and is fluent in English, Italian, French, and Spanish. Prior to Carolina Solar Services, Tim was a Managing Director for EDF and a Manager for EMCON. Tim holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School and a Master of Science in Agriculture from the University of Pisa, Italy. 

Kip Gering   Kip Gering
Senior Director of Business Development, Xage Security
As Senior Director of Business Development, engages distributed energy generators, micro-grid operators, utilities and others operating at the grid's edge to offer lead edge IoT level cyber security. Prior to joining Xage Security, Kip held a similar role with Sensify Security and prior to that was Vice President of Product Management for Networked Energy Services Corporation. Kip spent 13 years with Itron in various roles related to smart grid applications and networks. He holds a MBA from Gonzaga University.
